We are
proud to announce that we've selected two barefooters for the
program this summer:
Casey
Porcari & Jim Gullo
Here's a copy if each
of their emails:
It
is still dark outside as I roll out of bed. Ignoring my body’s
pleas for sleep I shine my shoes, dust the sink and slip into a
crisp, starched shirt. The next twelve to fifteen hours will
contain a fusion of discipline, training and challenge. When it
finally ends, I’ll be asleep before my head hits the pillow.
For the past
four years that has been my average day as a cadet at the Air Force
Academy. At times it has felt like an exercise in perpetual motion
but it gave me the discipline, drive and determination to finish
whatever challenges I unearthed speeding through the day. In one
day at the academy it was possible to complete a week’s worth of
challenges.
Drive and
determination are essential qualities for the Short Bus Intern
program. The days will certainly be long and action packed, with
more barefooting knowledge being passed on in a single day that most
people will experience in an entire season on the water. I believe
that my experiences have given me the drive and focus to not only
maximize my time in the program but to also make a real contribution
off the water.
Finally,
there is nothing like barefooting. If you’ve ever seen a glass
lake as the sun rises or carved through the water at forty miles an
hour on the soles of your feet, you know exactly how it goes beyond
a mere sport, it taps into your soul. For thirty days of that I’ll
wash the dishes, paint the house, mow the neighbor’s grass, drive
the truck to Canada…it will be more than worth it.
Sincerely,
James Gullo
James will be hopping
on board the bus June 1 and will be hear training through June 30.
James will get to train day in and day out with Australian barefoot
phenom Brendan Paige. James will also get a chance to attend a
Pro Tour event with us as we demonstrate Freestyle Barefooting at
the 2011 LA Night Jam in Baton Rouge, LA.
My
name is Casey Porcari, we met and talked at the Wisconsin Dells
Think Tank. I would like to be considered for the summer internship
position, if it is still available. I believe I am qualified in
that, although summers are short in Wisconsin, all summer long I eat
and breath barefooting. I would love to see my skiing go to the next
level, and I'm not afraid of hard work.
To give you an idea of my background: I grew up on the Mississippi
River and have been involved in water sports my whole life. I have
been a part of a non-competitive ski team for six years. I learned
how to barefoot the first year on the team and have continued a
steady progression since. I have trained with Paul at the RSWS for
the past 4 years and loved it. Since I don’t have anyone to train
with/ serious footers in the area, every year after I come back from
Scarpa’s, it seems like my skiing goes nowhere. I have learned a
good majority of traditional three event tricks on the boom, and
would like to take them to the long line as well as heaps of
freestyle tricks. I think a month of hard skiing could really pull
together all the loose ends.
The past two years I have worked for a screen-printing business
through a high school co-op program and learned a considerable
amount about screen-printing. I have started my own apparel company,
Koala Wear Clothing LLC. I am a graphic design student at Western
Technical College and would like to see the graphics part of Eagle
Sports and BFC and everything that goes into running a company.
Although my main focus would be barefooting and helping wherever I’m
needed, it would be a huge bonus to get a glimpse at Eagle Sports
and BFC from a business and graphics perspective.
I believe in the internship posting you asked to include
availability. Assuming this is a one-month commitment, the month of
July is looking pretty open for me.
Thank you for your consideration,
Casey P.
Casey will be hopping on board the bus in early July and staying
through the 1st of August. Casey will begin his training with
Brendan Paige and end it with a bang when Andre De Villiers shows up
here at BFC in late July. Casey will also get a chance to
attend a Pro Tour event as we attend the 2011 Malibu Open in
Milwaukee, WI.

Get Ready Boys!
This will be your view 1st thing in the morning. You'll have
access to the best barefoot equipment available in the world and be
skiing with two of the most exciting footers the world has ever
seen. My advice is bring a lot of Advil with you.
