Art returned our calls very quickly and was able to answer all our questions regarding what we should bring, directions to site, ski times, etc..

Art gives a speech on safety each day before you ski.  He also has you sign a water form.  Being out in the middle of nowhere would mean a long ride to a hospital, so safety is a priority.  He doesn't allow drinking in the boat, or anytime while you're training.  Afterwards, you can cut loose, but never during.  No horseplay in the boat, or anything that could possible cause someone to get injured.
3. Warm-up Routine not rated not rated

3.0

Art doesn't have a set warm-up routine.  If he has a new comer to the camp, he'll walk them through a stretch routine and ask them what they'd like to accomplish that day.  His repeat customers know the routine, so he lets them do their thing.

We hate to use the word "guaranteed", but you're guaranteed smooth water at Campo Barefoot.

Art coaches in a style similar to Scarpa.  He likes to build a solid foundation of the basic tricks (one foots, tumbles, toe-holds, then backwards) and have you do the both the basic and reverse of each trick before moving on to other tricks.  His nickname is "The General".  Art is a top Mens III skier and can take students up through all the basics, including surface turns.  That includes frontwards, backwards, toe-ups, and flips.  He uses both the Scarpa and BFC Extreme Footer shoe skies.  He teaches jump on the boom, but is not a specialist at it.  He can teach turns, but admits he isn't as good at them as the pro level skiers.  He knows his limitations and lives within them.  He works hard to make sure you get as much out of your skiing as possible.

Art likes to ski along with his students if he has a driver in the boat he can trust. You just won't be seeing a lot of side slides, feet-to-feet toe-turns etc...  But he's willing to get in the water and show his students what he knows, which is a lot.
8. Informative on phone not rated not rated

Art is very informative on the phone.  We'd like to see a more in depth Q&A section on his website, and even a map showing where it's located.  Art likes to keep the location a secret.  But questions like "What types of bugs & critters do we have to be aware of?" is one that all the moms would like to know.
9. Pro Shop not rated not rated

Art doesn't have a pro shop on site, nor an on-line shop.  He is a dealer for Intensity and Barefoot International gear.  You'll need to let him know ahead of time if you need something while you're there.

Dave has been on the Sanger promo program for many years.  He's a stickler for keeping his boat clean.

Art has a very nice and informative website.  It has some basic information, but could use some regular updates, at least in the photo gallery.  A Q&A section would be nice, as well as a testimonial section.

Art provides a laid back atmosphere with more water than you'll ever be able to use. Expect to get a minimum of 2 sets per day, and 3 if you can handle it.

The Sanger V215 has a good wake for barefooting.  With the barefoot plate on the boat, it's very comparable to the DLX and DXII wake.  If you're a skier that likes doing wakes at 47-48mph, this boat will only give you 45mph.  It has a very clean curl and all the characteristics you expect from a Sanger boat.

Campo Barefoot is unique in the fact that it is located in Mexico, across the border from California.  Art can not get business insurance without being a Mexican citizen.  So he covers his liability through a $300,000 policy with Ski Safe and an additional homeowners policy for accidents on land.  We advise you to make sure you have your own health insurance before attending Campo Barefoot.  You're in the wilderness, and you're in Mexico.  Enough said.

In Summary: This is a school that is outside what you've come to expect from a barefoot ski school.  You should give Campo Barefoot a try if you're looking for a trip that you'll remember for a lifetime.  17 miles of glass calm water with mountains in the distance, in Mexico, in the wilderness.
