Heinrich Sam sets Junior & Open EAME Records

It's been a while since we've written anything about Heinrich Sam.  Since his recovery from cancer, he's been on consistent tear dominating barefoot tournaments in the European Union.

Recently, we received official notice that Heinrich set several new EAME Junior and Open Tricks Records.  Almost every tournament he attended throughout the season, Heinrich posted higher scores than the previous runs.  Here's a list:

Event Date Tournament Score Official Approved PTs
KZN Championships
Jan 4, 08
9,850 9,850
Freestate Championships
Feb 22, 08
9,900 4,100
(2nd pass video lost)
GW Championships
Mar 29, 08
10,550 9,350
SA Nationals
Apr 26, 08 Rd 1
10,300 9,950
Apr 26, 08 Rd 2 11,300 9,700
Apr 26, 08 Rd 3 10,700 9,750

Officially, the new Junior and Open EAME Record in tricks is 9950.

Though he's been out of site, he surely hasn't been out of the minds of skiers like Small, St. Onge, and of course De Villiers.  These guys all know what this KID is capable of, and at the age of 17, it's not a matter of IF he'll win a World Championship, it's just a matter of WHEN.

We did convince Heinrich to go out on the water and show us some of his 3-Event skills, and then convinced him to try some Freestyle.  The kid took to it like a fish to water.  As you can see in the picture above, he's already working the switch-blade.  It helps that he's been doing side slides since he was 6 years old.

We asked Eugene Sam:
What he thinks makes the South African footers so tough?

He sent us these pictures, with the comment "South Africa isn't for Sissies"
