The South Australian Barefoot
Marathon was held on the 2nd of may 2010 a beautiful crisp
morning on the Glassy Murray River at Bow Hill. A few of the
crew arrived on the Saturday night for a catch up and a few
quiet drinks, planning out there strategies for the mornings
race.
The four teams consisted
of:
Barefoot Central team SA Skiers Sam Lamshed, Andrew Morris,
Glen Porter, Craig Lamshed (driver) and Susan Faulkner(
official)
Team 2 Peter Franks, Ben Franks, Lee White, Andrew Richards
(driver) Nick (official)
Team 3 Sandbaggers consisted of Scott Finlay, Jarrod Sieber,
Simon Black, Tom Saint (driver) Steven Reed (official)
Team 4 Mark Hollis, Greg Amour, Greg Brown and Tom Hollis,
driver Chris Cox (driver) Geraldine Cox (official).
After an excellent and well controlled start all the boats got
away at 7.30 am the speed restriction had been lifted for first
time which gave the younger team members starting off a distinct
advantage. Barefoot Central team lead the race from the start
with Franksy’s team close behind with the others battling it out
for third and fourth. Unfortunately for the Franksy’s team after
Ben Franks 9minute 23 second run, Lee White encountered some
rough water and had a serious fall taking him and his team out
of the race.
